The American Campaign Emails Dataset

Since the spring of 2020, I have collaborated with three colleagues at Cornell University to collect the fundraising emails sent by federal campaigns for office in 2020.

This project in progress, with Kanika Khanna, Cameron Mailhot, and Angie Torres-Beltran, collects, analyzes, and makes available a unique corpus of elite political communication in the United States.

We are currently in the process of coding the emails. You can follow our progress at the project’s GitHub repo.

This research has produced a conference presentation, scheduled for mid-April 2022, at the Descriptive Research Conference.

The most-used emojis from the subject lines of emails received by our straw account. Fun fact, more than 34 of the :sparkles: emojis were sent by one Republican campaign in Colorado. And yes, at least one campaign did send the :peach: emoji.
